Welcome to Georgia (Part 1)
I arrived in Georgia on Friday, September 11 with a brief, yet completely necessary stop at Chick-fil-A before heading to my house for this upcoming semester. All apprentices are placed in a house with house mentors and each home has its own unique name: La Casa Brosa (for the men), the Farm House, the Lake House, the Mansion (actually a trailer), and the Grove, which is where I’m living. My house mentors are Bill and Katie Swan, along with their son, Max, who is thriving in his toddler years. Oh, and they are expecting their second child at the end of October. Yay!
It wouldn’t be Adventures in Missions without community which means that I am not the only member of the Grove clan. My housemates’ names are Rachel (my roommate), Erika, Anna, Aimee, and Piva. They are all fantastic women and I’m so excited to do life with them for a while.
We had the weekend to get unpacked and settled, spend some time with our house, and then we left for a camping trip bright and early on Monday morning. This trip was a mandatory no-electronic adventure which turned out to be a huge blessing. It was just us, our leaders, and a small team of other apprentices (the entire group would have been too overwhelming) out in the woods for four days. This including the perk of no established bathroom facilities and silence while we hiked. The purpose of the trip was to spend time with the Lord free of distractions. I’m planning on writing a more detailed blog about this soon so stay tuned.
In other exciting news, we also found out where our apprenticeships will be! I am working with the World Race department, specifically with logistics, to help be a connection between Adventures in Missions and ministry contacts in the field. The specific description is the following: “The Adventures in Missions Regional Logistics Apprentice assists Regional Logistics Representatives as they work as a liaison between Adventures in Missions and its ministry partners throughout the world in order to maintain and improve the quality of the ministry and experience for participants.” My mornings will include taking courses in the leadership track and working in the World Race department in the afternoon. As the staff says, I am officially part of a discipleship school as well as an intern.
I’ll be sending more updates soon but there is a brief snippet of where my semester is headed!
